6 Claude Tools That Put You Ahead of 99% of People — The Claude AI Starter Pack

You come back from two weeks away. Six hundred unread emails. A board paper due Wednesday. That feeling — the one where the work you've been putting off is now waiting at volume — is familiar to anyone who has been doing this long enough.
What changes when you understand what Claude actually is — all of it, not just the chat window — is that this kind of situation stops being something you manage. It becomes something you delegate.
The front door is not the building
Most professionals open Claude AI, type a question, and get an answer. That's Claude Chat. It's genuinely useful — a thinking partner for quick research, working through a problem, or drafting something under pressure. But it's one of six distinct Claude products. If it's the only one you're using, you've seen roughly ten per cent of what's there.
Co-work and Dispatch — where delegation actually happens
Claude Co-work is a desktop application. Unlike the browser-based chat, it can see your files, your email, your calendar — and act on them. When I returned from two weeks away, Co-work processed my inbox through Gmail, drafted replies, and organised what remained into a decision queue. By the time I'd finished my coffee, the week was mine again, not the inbox's.
Dispatch extends that to your phone. Before boarding a flight to Sydney, I briefed Claude to research three competitors and build a one-page comparison against our current positioning — drawing on files already on my computer. Ninety minutes in the air. The deck was waiting on my phone when I landed.
Claude Code — directing, not developing
Claude Code builds real software. You describe what you want; it writes the code, tests it, finds the bugs, and hands you something that works. I've used it to ship an app that's live on the Apple App Store — built for my mother, so she could confirm she'd taken her medication with a single tap. I've also used it to run background agents that monitor competitors, manage research, and draft outreach. None of it written by hand. All of it directed by me.
The shift in thinking matters: you're not learning to code. You're learning to direct and ship.
Plugins and Skills — the upgrades that make it yours
Plugins are role packs. Anthropic ships them for sales, finance, legal, marketing, and other functions — each one teaching Claude the role and connecting it to the tools that role already uses. Install the finance plugin and Claude can reconcile accounts and draft journal entries. Install the legal plugin and it will flag compliance risk before a contract reaches your desk.
Skills work differently — they're personal. A skill is a set of instructions you write once, in plain text, that teaches Claude exactly how you want one specific job done. I have a skill called board memo. It knows my five-section format, my tone, the appendix I always include. Every memo since I built it reads as if I wrote it — because I designed how it's written. Build a skill for anything you do more than twice: briefing notes, client updates, meeting preparation, quarterly reviews.
You don't need to master all six today. Knowing they exist — and understanding what each one does — already puts you ahead of most professionals who are treating Claude as a search engine with a chat window.
